THE JOB OF:    Senior Design Engineer

***Please Note
This is a permanent direct hire position.
Salary is flexible depending on skills and experiences.

NATURE OF WORK:   
The purpose of this position is to provide technical support and expertise in all areas of Transmission Engineering and Design.    Responsibilities include assisting with the development of new standards, maintaining system documents and drawings, modification of transmission line corridors and pole replacements, and recommending changes to improve the overall system performance utilizing cost-effective methods.
 
Engineering responsibilities will have emphasis on system reliability and the development of efficient transmission systems.  Represents the Company to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work.  May supervise and coordinate the activities of others who assist in specific assignments.
 
REQUIREMENTS:    
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, or Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a structural or appropriate and related area of   concentration. 
Ability to obtain professional engineering licensure in the State of Florida required.  Licensure by the Florida Board of Professional Engineers is preferred. 
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the design of electric utility transmission systems having voltages at the transmission and sub-transmission levels. 
Must be capable of driving a passenger type vehicle in the performance of assigned duties.
Basic drafting skills and ability to read blueprints required.
Must possess good communication skills.
Must possess good organizational skills.
Must be willing and capable of accepting responsibility and acting independently.
Must be willing and capable of working some amount of recurring overtime.
Working experience with computers required, including PLS-CADD, work management systems, word processing, spreadsheets, and basic CADD.
The Engineer may occasionally encounter high voltage equipment and must follow accepted safe work practices in dealing with these hazards.
 
BASIC JOB DUTIES:   
Interpret and implement standards, and assist in developing new standards using current technology   to improve reliability and reduce costs. 
Participates in the design, estimation, and coordination of substation equipment, projects, and related systems.
Applies sound engineering principles in the design, estimation, and coordination of economical, safe, reliable, and efficient electric utility transmission systems at transmission and sub-transmission voltage levels. 
Communicates the various aspects and requirements for provision of service to customers. 
Evaluates transmission and substation products and services in accordance with Company, industry, and safety requirements.
Negotiates the terms and conditions of provision of service to customers within policy guidelines and sound engineering practice. 
Negotiates contracts with vendors, equipment manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors. 
Acts as a liaison between the Company and customers, contractors, and governmental agencies. 
Approves expenditures and resolves conflicts within limits of position authority. 
Applies the requirements and principles of various safety laws, guidelines, and accepted industry practices in the design and construction of transmission facilities which are safe for the public and employees (COMPANY Standards, National Electric Code, National Electric Safety Code, OSHA requirements, COMPANY Safe Work Practices, various governmental roadway clearance requirements, etc.) 
Attends various conferences, seminars, and other advanced training to broaden knowledge and understanding of electric utility transmission systems. 
May supervise and coordinate the activities of others who assist in specific assignments. 
Provides technical and policy related guidance to others who assist with specific assignments. 
Recommends solutions and cycles for the maintenance of existing equipment, transmission structures and hardware, and auxiliary devices. 
Assists in the analysis of system disturbances and events as necessary. 
Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Manager of Transmission Engineering.
